The Orrville Lions Club is part of the World's largest service club organization, Lions Club International, which has over 1.35 million members in 46 thousand clubs and in more than 200 countries and geographic areas.
Lions Clubs were founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1917, by businessman Melvin Jones. Since its inception, Lions Clubs International has been dedicated to helping those less fortunate in their communities and around the world. In 1925, Helen Keller challenged the members to be "knights of the blind." "We Serve" became the association's official motto in 1954.
In the summer of 2014, the Orrville Lions Club took the giant step in deciding to put on the Orrville Lions Rib & Music Fest as it major fundraiser of the year. Prior to that, we had partnered with Main Street Orrville and handled the food vendor portion of the Fest. This event is an undertaking that begins its planning for the next year immediately following the event held on the third weekend in August each year. We rely on over 200 volunteers from the community to help make this event happen. Our club spends over 2000 hours of planning to make sure this is Orrville's premier event of the summer. All the proceeds from this event are given back to the community in the form of the service we provide.
