History Of The "Rod Run" - An Event For The Whole Family
The "Rod Run" originated in Gatlinburg, Tennessee in the Seventies as an unofficial Event by the "Shades Of The Past" car club from Maryville, Tennessee. The City of Gatlinburg ran the cars out of town in 1982, and the Event moved to the Grand Hotel in Pigeon Forge and became the "Grand run" in 1983. In 1986 the Event split and the "Grand Run" remained at the Grand Hotel and the "Shades Of The Past" moved to another location. Current promoters, Mcs Promotions took over the "Grand Run" Event in 1991 with only a September show. The Spring show was added in April of 1995. Mcs Promotions moved the "Grand Run" to the LeConte Center in the Spring of 2014 and changed the name to: "The Pigeon Forge Rod Run"!
