Rolling Valley Elementary School is a Community of Caring. Parents, staff, and community work together to provide a positive, supportive, and caring atmosphere where students feel comfortable and come to school ready to learn. Intellectual curiosity and creativity are encouraged in order to develop the individual potential of every student. Students thrive in the culturally diverse population with general education, special education, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programs. Instruction is provided through a continuum of services integrated appropriately for the individual needs of general education students; students with varying degrees of learning challenges; as well as students identified as gifted and talented.
Ensuring excellence for every child requires high academic expectations from a community of learners. Solid instruction is provided through teacher use of researched, best practices and strategies that support student-centered learning. Ongoing student assessment and continuing staff development provide a winning combination that keeps student success at the forefront. In addition to classroom instruction, students welcome opportunities to participate in activities such as the Geography Club and Bee, Challenge 24 and the Continental Math competitions, band, chorus, strings, Patrols, the Cupstacking Club, SCA Spirit Days, First Grade Book Bag Night, Community of Caring activities, after-school tutoring, and the mentoring program. Regular parent communication through conferences, newsletters, Keep in Touch and the FCPS 24-7 Blackboard site keep parents informed as partners in their child’s education.
