The Lions Club was founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones. He was a successful businessman, philanthropic in his own right and saw fit to make a higher donation to the prominent blind educator, Helen Keller.
Its results soon proved a success and the Lion Organization or Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) came to pass. As known, all ideas and efforts were put to use in Blind & Sight work of all kinds. Efforts now include Hearing impaired, Medical Closets, Collection of old glasses for repair and disbursement to all portions of the world for the needy.
In general words, helping the community or others less fortunate than themselves is a cornerstone of Lionism. This is represented in the world motto "We Serve." Lions Clubs are located in 200 different countries and geographic locations with 1.3 million members in approximately 45,000 clubs.
