The Rye Fire Department is a combination full time and paid on call department. The station is manned 24/7 with two Full time firefighters who provide initial response for fires and ambulance runs. In the event of an emergency all off duty full time firefighters are recalled along with the fifteen to twenty paid on call firefighters. In addition to fire fighter certification, the overwhelming majority of Rye's firefighters are certified emergency medical technicians, including three paramedics.

As of July 20, 2006, the department has responded to a total of 548 calls this calendar year. These calls include medical emergencies, structure fires, auto accidents, illegal burns, etc. During the Mother's Day weekend rainstorm, the department responded to over 125 storm related calls in a three day period.
