MISSION STATEMENT - CATHOLIC FAITH COMMUNITY OF SAINT THOMAS MORE:
We, the Catholic Community of
Saint Thomas More, called by God and empowered by the
Holy Spirit, commit ourselves to the mission of Jesus Christ
which has been entrusted to us:
-To worship as one Body;
-To proclaim the Gospel in word and action;
-To build a just community without boundaries;
and to stand with the poor in solidarity.
WHO WE ARE
The St. Thomas More Parish has been serving the spiritual needs of Catholic families and students in the Durham, Lee and Madbury areas since 1947. With a membership of nearly 600 families, the St. Thomas More community is the cornerstone of the Catholic faith community in the Durham/Lee/Madbury area as well as for Catholic students at the University of New Hampshire. The parish also is home to a substantial number of parishioners from Barrington, Dover and Newmarket.
The parish is deeply committed to its surrounding community. St. Thomas More serves the poor via an active community food pantry and holiday food baskets, serves shut-ins and the elderly with visits from Eucharistic ministers, assists the infirm with prepared meals via the Good SAMS, provides council and support to the imprisoned through its Prison Ministry, and actively supports mission work abroad in Honduras. The parish is generous with its giving to NH Catholic Charities and is an integral part of the university faith community.
Within the parish, St. Thomas More provides spiritual support to members through the Prayer Shawl Ministry, seasonal prayer/retreats, and a scripture/reflection group. It has robust Christian Formation and RCIA programs, as well as a very active university campus ministry with UNH students.
