The Santa Monica Lions Club has been active in the city of Santa Monica, supporting many local public service organizations, while promoting the mission of Lions Club International (LCI), since 1923.
In 2011 the Club provided financial assistance to 13 Santa Monica organizations, nine Westside organizations, three international initiatives and two special LCI projects. Members of the club also volunteered time with Santa Monica service organizations.
The SM Club hosts the Community Recognition Dinner each spring, honoring an outstanding member of the Santa Monica community, and the Student Speaker's Contest starting in January, allowing students from local high schools to compete for college scholarships. The primary fundraiser of the organization is the Pancake Breakfast, held each fall at the Santa Monica Boys & Girls Club.
In addition to Club sponsored activites, members also select and attend a number of social events each year that include, theater performances, concerts, and guided tours.
