Scribner House is the oldest house in New Albany, Indiana having been built by Joel Scribner, one of the founders of New Albany, in 1814. Members of the Scribner family continued to live in the house until 1917. During that year the house was purchased by Piankeshaw Chapter NSDAR with the understanding that the owner, Miss Harriet Rowland Scribner, the granddaughter of Joel Scribner and a member of the Piankeshaw chapter, would be allowed to occupy the house for the rest of her life. She died a few months later on September 24, 1917, at the age of 82. The house is unique in that many of the furnishings are family pieces.
