Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana was incorporated July 25, 1983 to act as a liaison between the food industry and organizations that feed the ill, needy and children in adequate amounts to allow for a nutritious and balanced diet. Since that time, Second Harvest has grown to distribute nearly 4 million pounds of groceries donated by the food industry to 130 charitable programs in eight counties. Programs include pantries, meals, day care, shelter and other services for the region's 49,000 people living in poverty and the additional 72,000 low-income households struggling to make ends meet.

Second Harvest operates the Kids Cafe program throughout east central Indiana, sponsors the Summer Food Service Program for Children, contracts with the State to distribute commodities through The Emergency Food Assistance Program and conducts tailgate distributions. Second Harvest provides leadership in addressing hunger issues and advocacy.
