About Us:
The Sierra County Arts Council is a 501 c 3 non-profit group located in Truth or Consequences, NM. We are dedicated to supporting artistic and cultural diversity through community partnerships and to provide educational, artistic and cultural opportunities to all Sierra County residents. Founded in 1995, the Arts Council’s inception was to facilitate the construction of Las Palomas Fountain in downtown Truth or Consequences. Since then we have created and supported numerous arts related events and projects benefiting the communities in Sierra County, New Mexico.
Working to create public art installations, "Joy", a recycled steel steer sculpture, and the "Truth Monument" joined the colorful ceramic Las Palomas Fountain in Truth or Consequences’ historic district. “Reed Rocket" a stainless steel sculpture in the future downtown art park is an upcoming installation.
Art Talks, a series of lectures, workshops and classes aids residents’ studies of art. Accomplished local artists speak about their careers in a series of lectures.
The Arts Council sponsors several performance spaces. Starlight Performances, a music series in the nearby mountain community of Kingston, Art Jam, a T or C venue features young musicians and visual artists and Open Mic, which provides performance space for local musicians and spoken word performance artists are some of our current undertakings. The new 8 week Music Mix series showcases new and emerging local musicians at the new local brewery. 2018 will see the return of the world class Santa Fe Opera’s touring company performing in the Ralph Edwards Civic Center Auditorium.
The Arts Council awards annual scholarships to Hot Springs High School Seniors who wish to further pursue arts education. Additionally, the Council provides funding for the middle school to buy art supplies for art students, allowing all students to enjoy art classes.
The Sierra County Artists Directory, an annual publication in its 15th year, features artists, arts locations, healing artists, hot springs spas and other art-related activities. The Artists Directory has become a premier guide to Sierra County and is widely copied.
The Arts Council reaches out to the senior population and the residents of the New Mexico State Veterans facility making sure any needs for event attendance are met. The southern agricultural communities’ migrant populations are served with arts programming designed to stimulate interest in art mediums.
