Kenny Lawson is a third generation horse trainer whose greatest inspiration and influence was his father, Rob Tanner. From a very young age, Kenny worked for his dad learning how to train one of the most complex breeds of horses, the American Saddlebred. Competing at the national and world level his entire childhood, Kenny ultimately earned two world championships at Louisville, Kentucky. Kenny's daughter, Rylee, won fifth place at the world championships when she was only eight years old. After several years in Carlsbad, California, the market drove Rob to Versailles, Kentucky permanently, and Kenny went the way of the American Quarter Horse.
Currently, Kenny's entire business is dedicated to training horses for Cowboy Mounted Shooting. His ability to educate horses without taking their curiosity from them is something to be greatly admired. Cowboy Mounted Shooting caught his attention less than a year ago. With five horses, his wife and three kids now competing, and the 2014 CMSA California State Title in hand, Kenny has caught the attention of those who also want to participate in the sport.
Kenny identified a need in the market for well-trained shooting horses, so he created a business plan that focused on just that. Part of that plan was to team up with World Champion Mounted Shooter, Cathy Hendrick. Together they have formed a unique business partnership and have developed a synergy to combine their individual talents to introduce a powerful dynamic to the western sport of mounted shooting. Cathy's depth of knowledge and skill in gun handling technique as well as course management combined with Kenny's high level professional horse training and expert horsemanship makes for a dynamic duo. They can infuse the mounted shooting world with versatility for all shooters to develop themselves and their horses. The duo considers CMSA a tremendous platform to showcase their talent and ability so that more people in California and the nation will consider getting involved in the sport or improve their game. Kenny is the proprietor of Silver Dollar Ranch, located in Valley Center, California.
