About Us:

Silver Hills is a ninety-acre varied forest landscape with two small hills, numerous wetlands and vernal pools. From the crest of Silver Hill, a glacially formed hill called a drumlin with an elevation of 706 feet, one can see much of the Piscataquog Watershed and southwestern NH, including Joe English Hill, Crotched Mountain, Pack Monadnock and Mt. Monadnock. At the top of Mine Hill, an elevation of 760 feet, views of Kearsarge, Sunapee and on clear days, Mt. Moosilauke, can be seen. Historically, a silver mine once existed here.

Wider loops and intimate woods trails journey through the forest and field to the tops of both hills with easy to moderate levels of walking. Grassy paths feature pasture pines, a mark of the land's use as pastureland over a century ago. An abundance of wetlands and vernal pools fill the valleys, naturally filtering water and providing breeding grounds for amphibians. There are four watersheds here, points at which the water drains north, south, east or west to the Piscataquog River. White-tailed deer, moose, black bear and gray fox have been seen on the land as well as sign of fisher, coyote, snowshoe hare and beaver.

Our goal is to protect this diversity of habitat and wildlife and share the landscape's recreational and educational benefits with the public. We are monitoring and blazing trails to special features without disturbing habitat unique to this landscape.
