The Simsbury Farms Recreational Complex was a vision of town officials in the late 1960’s when the former Orkil Farms orchard was purchased. A total of 235 acres with rolling hills and picturesque views comprise this complex. Work on the Simsbury Farms Golf Course was started immediately after the purchase.
The golf course, which is 6,509 yards in length, was designed by renowned architect Goeffrey Cornish and opened for play in 1972. Recognized as one of the top 100 courses in New England by the New England Journal of Golf, “The Farms” provides an excellent test of golf for players of all levels. A driving range and large practice green as well as a newly constructed club house compliment the golfing complex.
“The Farms” has been host to tournaments such as the Connecticut State Women’s Amateur Championship State High School Golf Championship, Connecticut Men’s Public Links Championship and most recently the Connecticut Senior Open.
It was also the first public golf course in Connecticut to achieve certification as an Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary.
