Southgate Free Will Baptist Church was born out of much prayer and consecration by its founder, Rev. Leo A. Worley. The Spirit of the Lord promoted Rev. Worley and gave him the vision while pastoring the Rouge Free Will Baptist Church which had grown beyond capacity. It was Rev. Worley's desire to either build a larger building to house the Rouge Church membership or to build a sister church. His request was presented to the church body. After much prayer, the Rouge Free Will Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Worley, agreed to build a new edifice in Southgate.
The new Church, Southgate Free Will Baptist Church was organized on November 13, 1963. On the following Sunday, November 17, 1963 the ground breaking ceremony was conducted at 14755 Goddard Road, Southgate, MI which is now home of the Southgate Free Will Baptist Church. In the spring of 1964 the cornerstone was laid. The work progressed and the Lord blessed immensely and on April 11, 1965 the church was dedicated unto the glory of the Lord Jesus Chirst.
In 2003, the church celebrated it's 40th year anniversary.
