What is hospice care?

Hospice is a philosophy of care that focuses on quality of life and comfort for patients living with advanced illness. Patients who are eligible to receive Hospice care have a life expectancy of less than six months, and in hospice, the patient and their family are the focus of care. Here at St. Croix Hospice, care and comfort are tailored to the unique preferences of our patients, families and primary caregivers. We individualize care to ensure it is provided in a way that brings dignity, respect and compassion.  Our Pet therapy volunteers are an integral part of the journey.  We believe that moments of joy can be found through meaningful experiences; even in challenging times.

Pet Therapy team visits are requested by patients or their families.  We serve patients where they live.  Most Pet Therapy teams visit patients in assisted living communities or nursing care facilities.  We place teams in locations and settings that work best for them.

We provide comprehensive training which includes an in-person orientation and ongoing support from the St. Croix Hospice team.
