Mission
Serving God by welcoming all.
Purpose
St. John's United Church of Christ of Brighton shares the vision and embraces the rich heritage of its ancestors in faith. With the help of the Lord, the Pastor and congregation, St. John's builds on this foundation and acts as a catalyst for communication, cooperation, healing and growth in the community and around the world. Our doors are open to the diversity of God's children. We welcome them with open arms and hearts, and journey with each other toward the light of God's love. We persevere in our quest to be faithful stewards in our words and in our actions. We withstand the storms of a turbulent world so that we may one day be as one.
Prayer Of Welcome
Friend, you enter this church, not as a stranger but as a guest of God, your Heavenly Father. Come then, with joy in your heart and thanks on your lips into God's presence, offering your love and service. Be greatful for the strong and loyal men and women who, in the name of Jesus Christ, built this place of worship and to all who love this home of faith as the inspiration of their labor, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit - and may that blessing be upon you, both on your going out and your coming in.
About us
The United Church of Christ is a community of faith some 6,000 churches strong, that seeks to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed. The UCC was founded in 1957 as the union of several different Christian traditions. From the beginning of our history, we were a church that affirmed the ideal that Christians did not always have to agree to live together in communion. Our motto "that they may all be one" is Jesus' prayer for the unity of the church. You will find a diversity of worship styles and theology in our congregations and each congregation governs its own affairs. The UCC is one of the most diverse Christian churches in the United States!
