History :

Established in 1894, St. Michael's By-the-Sea Episcopal Church is the oldest non Roman Catholic church in North San Diego County, and for many years the only church in Carlsbad. A number of vicars served St. Michael's along with other churches in the area until 1953 when a full time vicar was appointed. Parish status was achieved in 1977.

"Old St. Michael's," the original, gothic style, white frame structure, moved to its present location in 1959, is now used as a chapel and has been designated an historical landmark.

Our historic chapel is the oldest church in the town of Carlsbad. St. Michael’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church. It was built in the year 1894. This building is one of the four oldest buildings in Carlsbad.
