Mission:
"The mission of the Stratford Chamber of Commerceis to initiate positive change for the benefit of the business community, thereby, enhancing the quality of life in Stratford through advocacy and action in the areas of economic development, education, transportation and the environment."
About Us:
Founded 33 years ago as the first chamber affiliate of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council (BRBC), the Stratford Chamber of Commerce (SCC) is an active partner in promoting economic development and community improvements in support of Stratford's vibrant local economy.
In partnership with the Town of Stratford, SCC has established positive business/community initiatives. These include Celebrate Stratford, a popular and successful series of community events for town residents and businesses; application for an annual $400,000 grant program for Brownfield remediation and the Town of Stratford's 375th Anniversary Celebration.
In working with the town, the SCC has initiated the revision of zoning regulations to enhance sign advertising visibility on the I-95 corridor for local businesses. This year the SCC is planning to partner with the Tax Assessors office to aid businesses in filling out Declaration Forms and with Planning and Zoning to update some regulations. Ribbon cuttings and annual legislative events are scheduled regularly.
The SCC is involved in a variety of programs and committees including First Thursdays, Economic Development Commission, the Train Station parking garage task force, the Stratford Greenway Committee, the Transit Oriented District Committee, Stratford's Festivals, and the Perry House Foundation Board of Directors.
The SCC actively supports the renovation of the Perry House. Believed to be one of the oldest houses in Stratford, this historic property serves as the Visitors Center and the Stratford Chamber of Commerce office.
The SCC has partnered with the Business Education Support Team (BEST) for 25+ years, raising over $400,000 in mini-grants for Stratford Public Schools. SCC members serve as mentors and participate in job shadowing programs.
The SCC continues to play an important role advancing positive economic development initiatives. Projects such as the Stratford Greenway along the Housatonic River will enhance recreational use of the town's riverfront as well as foster economic development through tourism. And, the Exit 33 full-interchange project will encourage more economic development through Barnum Avenue and Ferry Boulevard while connecting the Shakespeare Theatre and the soon to be developed Army Engine Plant properties.
In partnership with local businesses, town departments, and the community, the Stratford Chamber of Commerce continues to work to encourage Stratford's economic vitality and improve the quality of life in the Town of Stratford.
