About Us:
A new elementary school building was erected on the old site and completed by the fall of 1954. This U shaped structure was later joined to the W.P.A.-built gym after a new gymnasium was built for the high school in 1955. This facility served as the elementary school complex until Summer of 1997.
Over the years, six smaller surrounding area schools were consolidated into Summertown Elementary School. An increasing student population created an overcrowded facility in which seven portable classrooms were needed. Along with the overcrowded situation was the problem of a deteriorating, aging building which made it necessary to build a new school in 1996. The Lawrence County Board of Education began working on a county-wide building program in the 1980's; finally in 1997 a new structure was completed for Summertown Elementary School. During the summer of 1997 the move was made to the larger, more modern facility at 319 Corbin Street, about a half mile southwest of the old school site. Classes began in the fall of 1997 at this location
