Sunnyside Kindergarten is part of the Washington Court House City School District. The kindergarten students were housed at the Washington Middle School for many years. In the fall of 1998 the students were moved to the newly renovated Sunnyside building. In existence since 1939 this building had not been used by the city schools for many years. Yusa, a company located in Fayette County, donated money to build a new addition to house two classrooms and an office. The walls were beautified by murals painted by many local artists. Sunnyside is in its 8th year as a kindergarten center. This year Sunnyside houses 226 kindergarten age students. In addition to the regular kindergarten-K-2, various programs, such as, special education, K-1 for young five year olds and Extended Day Kindergarten are a part of the daily experience for some children.

Each year when the teachers attend the State Kindergarten Conference they are envied and ask many questions about how wonderful it is to have one grade level in the building and the benefits of the collaboration between the staff members. Sunnyside is unique and has provided the kindergarten “A Bright Place To Be”
