Sunrise Little League
History
Sunrise Little League (S.L.L.) was formed in 1975 based on the regions explosive population growth. Current SLL boundaries were split off from Citrus Heights Little League to create what is now Sunrise Little League.
The acreage necessary for the fields was donated to the Sunrise Parks and Recreation District in 1973 for the sole purpose of youth baseball by the wishes of Lester Carrick. Lester and his Wife Patsy had many hay rides on this land in its undeveloped days. Lester used to play for a Sacramento Semi-Pro Baseball Team in the 20’s so he loved the sport of baseball! This land became autonomous and was loaned to Sunrise Little League to create baseball fields.
C Bar C was born in 1975 as the volunteers of Sunrise Little League built the four baseball fields. Over the years, a snack bar was built by S.L.L. volunteers to replace the old railroad car that temporarily housed the snack bar at its current site. Trees were added by SMUD.
Sunrise Little League worked to have lighted fields added in the 80's and early 90’s as the final lighted field was added in 1994 on the Major Field. In 2002, a new T-ball field was added at C Bar C to compliment the existing T-Ball facility at Woodside School. In the same year, the Original Free T-Ball program was introduced.
In spring 2002, Sunrise Little League became the largest Little League program in District 5. SLL added its largely successful Winterball program in 1999 which began with 5 teams in 3 divisions. In 2001, the Minor B level was added to Winterball. In 2004, SLL Winterball surpassed all North Sacramento as the largest Winterball program catering to youth 6-15 in the area. Sunrise Little League enjoys kids from Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks, Orangevale, and Sacramento in its Winterball program. SLL also works in conjunction with area youth programs to centralize the Winterball program at C Bar C Park.
Sunrise Little League began its highly successful Memorial Weekend Tournaments in 2002 and has quickly grown this innovative program to 25 teams. In 2005, this tournament will include non-Little League teams for the first time allowing this program to grow to its capacity of 40 teams.
Sunrise Little League added Little League Girls Softball in spring 2005 and is already touting the success of this new program. Little League Girls Softball is the fastest growing element of Little League and SLL is proud to be the first in the tri-county area to offer this new and innovative program.
