About The School
Swift School Facts
Swift Consolidated is a K-5 school and there are currently more than 180 students on roll. The school is located on 5 acres along Highway 10, which is also known as the Bon Secour Highway. Swift Elementary is a feeder school for Foley Middle School.
History
The Swift family moved to the area in 1906 and bought land in Bon Secour. They opened a saw mill and built a one room school house across the street from the current building. The school was originally intended for use by the Swift family children and the children of the saw mill employees.
Swift became a public school and was renamed Swift Consolidated in 1916 when Will School, at Miller's Bend, and Swift School merged.
In 1920, a new school was built across from the original school on five acres donated by the Swift family. The new school consisted of 3 large classrooms and 2 smaller classrooms. Swift School students still attend classes in these classrooms today.
