The Tehachapi Humane Society was started in December 1993 by Robin Freckmann putting an ad in the Tehachapi News. She asked if others were interested in developing a humane society in Tehachapi. The closest animal shelter is a county run shelter in Mojave, a 20-minute drive from Tehachapi. The society officially became a non-profit corporation in 1995. Volunteers have been working out of their homes since that time. The society began renting their first office at 707 Valley Blvd., Tehachapi in October 1999.
The purposes for which the Tehachapi Humane Society was formed are:
To help provide a low cost neutering program,
To aid and assist our local animal shelters,
To provide, publish and distribute educational materials and information concerning the proper care and humane treatment of animals,
To raise funds to finance and carry out the goals and programs,
To prevent cruelty to animals.
