In 2006, the Boerne ISD (BISD) identified more than 600 youth as being "at-risk" of poor attendance and performance, or dropping out of school before graduation. To meet the needs of and serve youth on-the-brink of success, the following year, the BISD implemeted a research-based prevention and early intervention strategy; MENTORING.

The Boerne ISD Mentor Program (Program) is successful and continues to grow and thrive each year due to contributions made by volunteers in and around Boerne able and willing to make a difference! The Able Mentor was created for active and prospective volunteers and the community of Boerne.

The mission of the Program is to build character in youth by facilitating an ongoing relationship with a caring adult who provides support, guidance, and assistance on a one-to-one basis who is a friend, role model, and advocate.
