About Us:
Meaning any of several large, corvine birds having lustrous, black plumage and a loud, harsh call, esp. Corvus corax, of the New and Old Worlds.
In Irish mythology ravens were symbols of freedom and tran-scendence, having the power to soar up above the earth into the heavens, and return to bring messages from the gods. Although its reputation was sometimes dubious, the raven was considered an oracular bird, often representing the upsets and crises of life which were deemed necessary for anything new to be created. In lore today, the Raven is a symbol of prophecy and protection.
Like the bird, The Mad Raven Pub and Restaurant in Waltham, is now one of the area's truly unique places. It captures the mythical nature in its name with a rich old world feel yet a modern twist.
In early 2001, The Mad Raven opened on Main Street, and quickly took flight as a fresh new spin on the traditional Irish pub. For a decade now, husband-and-wife team Mark McAuliffe, a native of County Cork, Ireland and Maura McAuliffe, a onetime Boston corporate lawyer turned restaurateur, have owned and operated The Mad Raven, building strong ties with their customers and the Waltham community.
Over a decade later, people can still gather to enjoy a pint, great food, the warmth of good friends, catch a game or the excitement of live music, all in the comforts of The Mad Raven.
