The Rectory School

528 Pomfret street
860-928-7759

The Rectory School is an independent  coed, junior boarding (5–9) and day school (K–9)  in 1920 by the Rev. Frank H. Bigelow and his wife, Mabel. The Bigelows understood the long–term benefits of teaching children in small classes with individualized attention in a caring atmosphere. The school is situated on 138 picturesque acres in northeastern Connecticut.
The school offers middle -schoolers a combination of a traditional academic, athletic and fine arts program, innovative teaching methods, and the award winning Individualized Instruction Program (IIP). The IIP is a unique one-to-one instruction program woven seamlessly into the school day. This approach successfully addresses individual learning styles, aptitudes, and needs from remedial to gifted. Many junior boarding schools have modeled their tutoring programs after The Rectory School's IIP.
The superior Rectory athletic facilities and sports program emphasizes participation, effort, and sportsmanship. Rectory teachers are role models also as dorm parents, coaches and tutors. This tight knit community helps to promote personal self-worth and accountability as it lives The Rectory School Creed: Responsibility, Respect, Honesty and Compassion.
The Rectory School is accredited by the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) and approved by the Connecticut State Board of Education.
Memberships include the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) The Connecticut Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) and The Association of Boarding School (TABS).

The Rectory School’s mission is to provide students, both early childhood and middle school adolescents, with an enriched and supportive academic, social and ethical community that addresses individual learning styles, aptitudes and needs while promoting personal self-worth and accountability. The school community lives the Rectory School Creed: Responsibility, Respect, Honesty, and Compassion.

RECTORY AS A SECOND FAMILY
While The Rectory School cannot replace a child’s real family, it is dedicated to providing middle school adolescents with an enriched and supportive community which becomes their home away from home.
