Transformed by the Holy Spirit, united in trust, we will boldly proclaim Christ to the world

The United Methodist Church of Martha’s Vineyard has been worshipping and ministering at both Trinity Worship Center (40 Trinity Park, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557) and Christ Mission Center (89 William Street, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568).  Trinity Worship Center (built in 1878), which is adjacent to the Tabernacle on the grounds of the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association, became a national historic landmark in 2005.  As a part of connectional body of the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church, we invite you to join us as we are working together with our United Methodist and ecumenical siblings under the slogan of “transformed by the Holy Spirit, united in trust, we will boldly proclaim Christ to the world.”

Mission Statement

“The mission of the church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.  Local churches provide the most significant arena through which disciple-making occurs.” (UMC Book of Discipline)

United Methodist Church of Martha’s Vineyard (UMCMV) will continue to grow as a healthy disciple-making congregation, in which everybody is welcomed, respected, cared about and embraced.

As a part of the United Methodist connectional body, the UMCMV is linked to all other United Methodist churches by organization and by purpose as they carry out the mission and ministry of the reign of God.  With a focus on making disciples, the UMCMV will be constantly invited to remember the reasons why we said “yes” to Jesus, especially through the NOW (Nurture, Outreach, Witness) ministries.

(1)  Nurture ministries: Nurture ministries will provide opportunities for people of all ages to grow and mature as disciples of Jesus Christ.  Nurture ministries include the areas of member care, worship, and educational experiences such as the church school, small groups, and other settings for spiritual formation.

(2)  Outreach ministries: While Nurture ministries help us love God, Outreach ministries help us love others (Mark 12:30-31).  Outreach ministries give attention to local and larger community ministries of compassion and justice.

(3)  Witness ministries: Witness ministries provide a vehicle for proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ to a broken and hurting world. These ministries enable people to pay attention to the active presence of God in their lives and to listen to the stories of others who need to hear a word of hope, love, and grace.  Witness ministries also focus on hospitality and visitation.  With a renewed focus on worship, nurture, and community outreach, we invite the rest of the ministries and stewardship efforts to support the disciple-making process.
