History

In May of 1998, Pastor Mitch went on a 21 day fast. Near the end of the fast, the Lord directed him to begin a new fellowship called Restoration Church. In July of 1998, Restoration Church met for the first time in the home of Rene Fabel with 32 people present. Soon after, the church outgrew Rene's home and moved it's corporate worship services to the Fernley High School Commons. Various Home Bible Studies were begun throughout the area that met on Sunday nights and throughout the week. Almost five years later, the original home group is still meeting.

The spiritual leadership of the church consists of a team of four pastors, with each one serving in distinct areas of ministry, yet submitting to each other as one. The church is not congregational in government, but is led by a plurality of co-equal elders.

In many ways we are unlearning, while in others we are learning. Sometimes it is difficult to know the difference between learning and unlearning. One area we are unlearning is the myth that Jesus primarily reaches people through the "institutional church". We are learning that Jesus places an emphasis on people reaching people. We are unlearning and learning things such as giving the little things to Jesus while trying to deal with the larger issues on our own. We still have not fully learned all we need to know about Jesus' ability to heal, transform, and make us whole. We are unlearning our religion that has stood in the way of healing, transformation, and wholeness. We are also learning that we let go of some values that we should have held close. Through it all, our vision is still clear -- "we want to see Jesus create whole disciples out of broken people.

We understand that God specializes in restoring broken relationships and we were created for the express purpose of having an intimate relationship with Him. We will always be growing in our restoration process, realizing that we lack power and credibility if we offer to others a level of restoration with the Father that we have not yet experienced in our own lives.

We are not focused upon growing a church, but on connecting with people and bringing them into the Kingdom of God through Jesus Christ. We are also concerned that we do the right things, the right way, at the right time. This has initially slowed our numerical growth, but we anticipate long term growth and blessing as the result.

The front door of Restoration Church is not at the building, but in the transformed lives of people. If we can successfully lead people into spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional wholeness -- and Jesus shows up in the person of the Holy Spirit, we will see many lives changed forever.
