Our History
Three Rivers Kiwanis Club was chartered on November 6, 1991 and became a part of New England Kiwanis Division 2 which is made up of Kiwanis Clubs from Dexter, Dover-Foxcroft, Greenville, Guilford, and Orono-Old Town. Thirty-one members formed the new club sponsored by Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis with a goal of making a difference in the lives of children and people in the community.
Fund raisers were started to raise money necessary to carry out projects. An early one became the Annual Kiwanis Auction that is held in June. Such programs as Terrific Kids, Key Club, Bike Rodeo, college book awards, Secret Santa, and many others benefit from the auction. Other fund raisers over the years include an Annual Variety Show to fund the Reading Is Fundamental program which provides books three times a year for all children from nursery school age through grade six and a Library Kids Korner program, Charity Golf Tournament sponsored by JSI, Coffee Houses, Community Calendar , fruit sale, and many others.
Many service projects have been carried on which include the building of the warming hut at Harris Field; the renovation in the Town Hall for an Arts Center with stage lighting and a full sound system made possible by donations and grants; a Veterans Day dinner for all veterans in our area; the beautiful gazebo overlooking the Sebec River and constructed by Kiwanians, American Legion members, and towns-people; the Three Rivers Newspaper printed weekly; and many others listed in the back of this brochure.
Club officers are elected to serve for one year and a board of directors meets once a month to conduct the business of the Club. Officer training is provided for all incoming officers and NE conferences are held yearly for all who wish to attend.
Three Rivers Kiwanis membership is open to anyone who would like to have a part in helping to make a difference in our community through volunteering their time and energy.
