Bremen has a long history of strong manufacturing, retail and commercial businesses. Diversification assures Bremen's continued growth and a vibrant future economy.
History:
The first settlement was established around 1836. By 1848 a number of families came to the area. In 1846 a Post Office was established and named Brothersville, in honor of the first Postmaster David Brothers. In 1848 George Pomeroy and John Bush bought off of Mr. Brothers an acre of ground. Mr. Bush took the east half and built a log cabin, while Mr. Pomeroy built a crude frame building on the west side in which he established a store. Brothersville became New Bremen by 1846. The name is derived from German orgins as a large portion of the early settler's were German speaking people. The New was gradually omitted and it became just Bremen.
The present site of Bremen was platted and laid out on October 21, 1851 by George Beiler. The original plat contained 48 lots. Under the law authorizing the incorporation of towns, the Board of Commissioners in March 1871, organized the town of Bremen.
