Incorporated in 1903, Ferriday, Louisiana is located in Concordia Parish - 13 miles west of the Mississippi River & Historic Natchez, MS. The primary types of industry in this area include agriculture, cuisine, oil & gas, entertainment, outdoors recreation, construction, and tourism. The town has an approximate population of 4,111 residents and 8 square miles in land area.
Traditional small-town southern living provides residents and visitors the experience of plantations, golf courses, country clubs, cotton gins, pecan groves, fried catfish, and miniature horse and ostrich farms. To add to this relaxed and easygoing lifestyle, construction recently began on Panola Cove gated community, which is located on beautiful Lake Concordia.
The area is most commonly known as a "Sportsman's Paradise" with 300 miles of water, including Lake St. John and Lake Concordia, a trophy bass lake. Camping, cabins, bed & breakfasts, boat rentals and fishing guide service are available year round. Wild game is abundant close by at Three Rivers and Red River State Wildlife Management Areas, and Bayou Cocodrie National Refuge.
Home to both public and private school systems, Ferriday promotes and offers progressive learning environments as well as healthy and competitive local sports programs.
Ferriday and the surrounding areas are widely known as the birthplace of "River Levee Blues" and the traditional African-American "Easter Rock" service is still performed. It is also the hometown of music icons such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley, Jimmy Swaggart, and the late PeeWee Whittaker. The Delta Music Museum located on Louisiana Avenue showcases its famous residents and musical heritage.
