About Us
For more than 100 years, Union Memorial Church has served as a house of worship in the Glenbrook section in Stamford. What began as "the village Sunday School" became the community chapel and grew to become an embracing Christian Church Family. Worship, education and missions are central to the identity of Union Memorial.
We gather every Sunday morning at 10:00 am for worship and observe Communion on the first Sunday of each month. Our Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir lead us as we sing with joy to the Lord. On Sunday morning we offer educational opportunities for all ages. During Worship, nursery is provided for infants and toddlers. Older children participate in the opening of worship, then attend age appropriate classes, where they worship, pray, learn Bible stories, and enact dramas.
Our mission to "learn, celebrate and share Christ's love" continues after Sunday morning. We host monthly men and women's Bible studies. Our drama group called "The UMC Players" performs Bible based plays in worship.
Members participate in hands-on community service projects during the year, including a summer "tailgate" sale to raise camp scholarships, a fall holiday bazaar to benefit local charities, a one-day home repair project, ringing bells for the salvation army Christmas kettle collection, sponsoring a child in Uganda, conducting food drives for the Food Bank .
We operate a preschool for children for children ages 3-5 years old. Our facility houses two other Christian congregations – The Jesus Christ Foundation Assembly and the Haitian American Center of the New Jerusalem Church. We also host meeting for Our facility hosts a variety of neighborhood groups including the Glenbrook Block Party, Alcoholics Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous, The Schubert Chorale, the Light Troopers Opera rehearsal and a local Girl Scout troop.
