Mission:
The Museum’s mission is to serve the citizens of New Mexico, especially its students from K-12 schools, pueblos, and universities and colleges, and all visitors, by collecting, exhibiting, preserving, and fostering the understanding of a wide range of works of art. This mission, as a standard of excellence, is central to all activities at the UNM Art Museum, specifically exhibitions and related programming. As an educational institution, the Museum serves approximately 1,300 collegiate students and 3,000 elementary and secondary school students annually. University classes from a variety of programs and departments—Africana Studies, French, German, Art and Art History, Literature, History, Theatre and Dance, Music, and the School of Architecture and Planning—regularly visit our changing exhibitions. In addition, the Museum’s Beaumont Newhall Print Study Room is available by appointment and serves a variety of students, faculty and other scholars who may study original works of art.
