U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 12-01 (1st Southern District)
Division 12
Promoting boating safety in East River and Long Island Sound.
Flotilla 12-1 is located in Fort Totten, Bayside, NY. Currently our
flotilla consists of 68 active members and 6 Operational Facilities, 2
PWC Operational Facilities, 1 Air Facilities, 4 Radio Facilities. We
operate under the direct supervision of USCG Sector New York. Our Area
of Responsibility is North Shore of Long Island from Matinecock Point
West into the East River to Mill Rock.We have meetings on the 2nd
Thursday of every Month and several Social Activities throught the year.
We provide free vessel safety checks at local marinas. We also offer
boating classes to the public in Queens and Nassau counties. Course
offerings include Boating Safety, Navigation, Sailing, etc. Please visit

Currently we have 5 Qualified Coxswains, 9 Qualified Crew Members, 2
Qualified PWC Operators. Our Public Education Staff consists of 12
Certified Instructors. In addition we have 12 Qualified Vessel Examiners
conducting Vessel Safety Checks and 3 Recreational Boating Safety
Visitors, 3 Qualified Interpreters.
In 2010 our Members
participated in 74 Training hours, 317 hours of Safety Patrols, 107
hours of Regatta Patrols, 12 hours of Marine Safety Patrols, 69 hours of
Coast Guard Operational Support, 4 Assists,and Saved $100,000 in
Property Value, Gave 280 Courtesy Examinations of Public Vessels, plus
13 Recreational Boating Safety Examinations. In addition we held 50
Public Education Sessions for a total 136 hours.
In 2009 our
members participated in 72 Training hours, 431 hours of Safety Patrols,
73 hours of Regatta Patrols, 9 hours Marine Safety Patrols, 58 hours of
Coast Guard Operational Support. 8 Lives Saved, 15 Assists, 26 Persons
Assisted and Saved $125,000 in Property Value. Gave 211 Courtesy
Examinations of Public Vessels plus 148 Recreational Boating Safety
Visitations. In addition we held 37 Public Education Sessions for a
total of 114 hours
