Much of the original text of the history written for the Sesquicentennial in 1974 was reused as it could not be improved upon. We are so fortunate that Byron's history was carefully preserved through the years by them. Appreciation is also expressed to so many Byron area people who lent family pictures for us to copy or gave us family information to use. The names are numerous of those who helped. Sources used were the 1880 History of Shiawassee and Clinton Counties, Sesquicentennial 1974 History, cemetery records, obituaries, scrapbooks, genealogies, diaries and family histories and folklore. Every attempt at accuracy has been made and we realize that it is as accurate as dates given, notations, stories and memory served.

We have tried to reach out and embrace as many family names as possible. So many of the old pioneer family names are no longer heard here, and surely there is enough additional information out there to write another book. It was felt that just as the 1974 history was written embracing the town and township together, we could not separate the two. They have always been inseparable with township residents owning or operating businesses in the village, moving into or out of the village into the township, coming into the schools, churches and organizations.Old family names joined by the new ones moving into the area, were heard daily in the everyday camaraderie between the inhabitants of the village and the township.

We hope that this information will be interesting and informative and perhaps serve to nudge others into exploring Byron's past, for too soon, the present become the past and the preservation of it shall fall to future historians.

The content on this Web site has been compiled from the 1999 edition of Byron: Captured in Film and Text. Many people from the community poured countless hours to complile a revised history for the 175th Byron Jubilee.
