The village of Goodrich was founded in 1836 by the Levi Goodrich family, and incorporated as a home rule village on November 18, 1957. The Goodrich family from Clarence, New York made their first trip to Michigan in 1835. They purchased approximately 1,000 acres at $1.25 per acre from the government, in different sections of Atlas Township. They made what was to become the Village of Goodrich their home in 1836.
