Incorporated in 1985, the Village of Islandia is home to over 3,000 residents and over 150 businesses. The village's proximity to New York City and the North and South shores of Long Island make Islandia an attractive destination for residents and businesses who may be thinking of relocating to Long Island.

The village is protected by the Suffolk County Police Department, Fourth Precinct located in Hauppauge, and fire protection is provided by three volunteer fire departments — Central Islip, Hauppauge and Lakeland. Islandia mail services go through the Central Islip post office, its school districts are Hauppauge, Central Islip and Connetquot.
