The West Haven Historical Society a) promotes the 350 year history of the City of West Haven, its buildings, businesses and citizens and b) creates a community awareness of the value of its resources for today and the future..
We attain these goals through:
Community Outreach Programs which support other history-oriented organizations. Example: Fund raising for Christ Church Bell Tower Restoration, restoration of Central Burial Grounds;
Regular meetings and on-going programs for current and potential members to introduce, discuss, promote or problem-solve current issues. Example., Local archaeological Native American dig, West Haven Buckle Company, In-city quarry, Campbell's gravesite; endangered Buildings Survey.
Educational programs to encourage preservation of our resources through identification, research and participation in community projects. Example: Bus Tours of Historic West Haven, publications, newsletters, lectures, school programs, speaking engagements, special events, reenactments, dedications, researchers.
A professional, supportive relationship with other history groups. Example: Provide docents for Learning Center for Local History, Savin Rock and Ward-Heitmann House Museum, Townshend Mansion "Raynham", SAR, DAR, various professional memberships.
