Mission Statement :
The Church exists to glorify God by knowing and sharing Jesus.
The mission is to fulfill God's Great Commission by making disciples of Jesus Christ and to fulfill God's Greatest Commandment by loving God with all our heart, soul and mind and by loving our neighbors as ourselves.
Vision Statement :
By the end of 2008, by God's grace, we envision a church of 500 people working together to reach 50 people for Jesus Christ, praying that the Lord of the Harvest would release 3 people from our congregation into full-time missions and planting 1 reproducing church in a nearby town in Connecticut.
History :
The group of believers now known as the Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church was organized October 5, 1888. We are affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America. For 55 years the church was located on Benton Street in Hartford until moving to its present location in Wethersfield in 1961. A long-awaited expansion of our facilities (a Christian Education wing) was completed in early 1999, the first of three phases of expanding our facility.
Evangelical refers to our commitment to the authority of Scripture as being inerrant in the original autographs and the only safe and sufficient guide to faith and practice.
Free refers to our form of church government as being congregational. Free Churches depend upon the active participation of lay people in the decisions and directions of the local church.
We are grateful for God's blessing over the years so that today we are a group of believers from a variety of ethnic, economic and racial backgrounds. Our common bond is found in their faith in Jesus Christ as God's only provision for mankind's sin, and who are seeking to be obedient to the will of God through the power of His Holy Spirit.
