The 35 charter members of the Wilson Rotary Club were lead by their first president, Tom Pettus, in their first civic project to furnish Wilson County the leadership to pass a school bond election in January 1918. This election was to establish schools in the county other than the one Wilson Town School. During the 1920's, the club spearheaded campaigns for the building of the County Courthouse, the Federal Courthouse and a new county home. In the early 1920's, under President Ben F. Eagles, the club was instrumental in the formation of a Boy Scout program in Wilson that survived the Depression and became the foundation for the East Carolina Council covering most of Eastern North Carolina.
Today, the membership has grown to more than 70 members who are part of a diverse group of professional leaders working to address various community and international service needs and to promote peace and understanding throughout the world. Our members are our most important asset. They are the force that allows Rotary to carry out its many humanitarian efforts and achieve its mission.
