The Alex Regional Theatre (ART) Board, a private nonprofit 501(c)(3) performing arts organization, was formed by the City of Glendale to manage the operations of the Alex Theatre.
Brief History of the Alex Theatre
Since 1925, the Alex Theatre has been a Los Angeles area landmark and continues to serve as a top entertainment destination for the entire Los Angeles basin. The Alex has served many purposes over its 81 year history including that of a top Vaudeville theatre, movie palace, and now a world-class performing arts center.
Glendale Redevelopment Agency
In 1992, the City of Glendale Redevelopment Agency purchased the historic Alex Theatre to serve as the centerpiece of Glendale's revitalized Brand Boulevard. The agency dedicated $6.2 million in public funds to restore the Alex to its former splendor and transfer it into a performing arts center. Today, the Redevelopment Agency owns the Alex Theatre and leases it to the nonprofit Alex Regional Theatre (ART) Board which operates the venue as a multi-use facility for professional and community performing arts groups.
Mission
The mission of the Alex Regional Theatre Board is to preserve and operate the historic Alex Theatre as a performing arts and entertainment center, and to improve the economic vitality and quality of life of the community by offering programs of cultural and educational value.
The ART Board is committed to accomplishing these goals with responsibility, integrity and sound financial oversight.
