Anthony D. Caffarelli, M.D. is the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Hoag, as well as Director of the Elaine & Robert Matranga Aortic Center and the Newkirk Family Endowed Chair in Aortic Care at Hoag.
He is a member of the Newport Cardiac & Thoracic Surgery Group, one of the premier cardiovascular and thoracic surgery groups in Southern California comprised of surgeons exclusive to Hoag Hospital. Dr. Caffarelli performs hundreds of cardiac and thoracic procedures annually, specializing in complex aortic procedures, including aneurysms, dissections, bicuspid aortic valve disease, and valve sparing root procedures. He is also a member of the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement or TAVR Team at Hoag.
Dr. Caffarelli received his medical degree from the University of California – Irvine, and completed his General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgical Residencies at Stanford University.
Dr. Caffarelli received the Pat O. Daily, MD Award for Clinical Excellence in Cardiovascular Surgery in 2010 and the Western Thoracic Surgical Association Norman E. Shumway Award in 2009.
Dr. Caffarelli’s professional associations include: Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American College of Cardiology, and the Western Thoracic Surgical Association. He is Board Certified in both General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery.
