Horacio Asbun, M.D., is a surgical oncologist specializing in treating liver cancer, gallbladder cancer, biliary system cancer and pancreatic cancer and diseases. He is chief of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute.
Prior to this role, he served as director of the Hepatobiliary and Pancreas program and chairman of General Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
Dr. Asbun is actively involved in clinical research to improve treatment efficacy and patient outcomes. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 110 peer-reviewed surgical videos and 35 book chapters. He also serves as editor-in-chief of the American College of Surgeons Multimedia Atlas of Surgery and reviewer for numerous scientific journals.
He directs and teaches national courses on surgery and speaks frequently at scientific conferences around the world, with more than 410 presentations to date. He also serves on the boards and committees of several national and international professional societies.
He is a member of the American Surgical Association, American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association and more. At a 2022 American College of Surgeons meeting in Bolivia, he was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa of UDABOL.
