This dynamic event will feature thought-provoking discussions, performances, and presentations that highlight the diverse stories of trailblazing women past and present. From the pioneering leaders who shaped the course of history to contemporary voices breaking barriers today, Her Voice, Her Power, Her Story invites you to reflect on the powerful legacies women have created and continue to build.

Highlights of the Day Include:

Express, Empower, Embody: A Fun Nia Movement Class 

10:15 AM - 11:30 AM: Join Caroline Kohles, Nia Movement educator and JCC of Manhattan director of Wellness, for an introduction to the joyful, expressive movement of Nia, blending dance, martial arts, and mindfulness to create ease, strength, and connection in the body. We’ll begin with gentle joint-opening movements, then flow into simple, expressive dance sequences that encourage freedom, confidence, and self-expression. Moving organically to music, we’ll honor the spirit of women who have danced together for centuries—to celebrate, to heal, to protest, and to find joy. This session is open to all levels—no dance experience needed! Just bring your body, your energy, and your spirit.

Doll-Making Workshop (Ages 6-12)

11:30 AM - 1 PM: For all of human history we have been making dolls. They can be made from almost any material and serve a wide range of purposes and the Museum of the City of New York is home to a a vast collection of dolls. Explore the history of actress, painter, and designer Ruby Bailey as you create your own dolls in a family workshop led by Clarivel Ruiz, founder of the Dominicans Love Haitians Movement who began sending Black Dolls to young women in the Dominican Republic and Haiti in December 2017.

Art and Activism - Panel Discussion

1 PM - 2 PM: Join us for a dynamic and thought-provoking panel discussion with artists Korina Emmerich, Danielle Scott, and Azzah Sultan explore the powerful intersection of art and activism. In this conversation, moderated by Puffin Curator of Social Activism, Sarah Seidman, our panelists will delve into how creative expression serves as both a tool for social justice and a catalyst for meaningful change. They’ll reflect on the ways their work challenges societal norms, amplifies marginalized voices, and fosters collective action.

Through personal stories, creative processes, and reflections on their own art practices, these artists will share insights into the role of art in addressing urgent issues such as racial equality, environmental justice, indigenous representation, gender rights, and more. With the world in constant flux, the discussion will also consider the evolving nature of art in activism—how it adapts to new platforms, new technologies, and new forms of resistance.

Children's Book Reading with Jennifer Jones

1:30 PM:  Join Jennifer Jones, the first African American Radio City Music Hall Rockette for a special StoryTime reading of her illustrated Children's book, On the Line: My Story of Becoming the First African American Rockette. Following StoryTime, Jennifer will be available to sign books that will be available for purchase in our Museum Shop.

Becoming Spectacular: The Rhythm of Resilience - Book Talk with Jennifer Jones

2:30 PM - 3:30 PM Join Jennifer Jones, the first African American Radio City Music Hall Rockette for a moderated discussion about her new book, Becoming Spectacular: The Rhythm of Resilience from the First African American Rockette. Becoming Spectacular charts her journey to one of the world's most celebrated dance troupes in this gripping memoir that, for the first time, goes behind the velvet curtains at Radio City's legendary holiday show. Following the talk, Jennifer will be available to sign books that will be available for purchase in our Museum shop.

NYC Discovery Lab

11 AM - 4 PM: Join us at the NYC Discovery Lab with drop-in activities for children ages 5-12 and their grownups! This month we’re celebrating Women’s History in New York. Learn about the stories of Women New Yorkers - from engineers to designers - who left their mark on the city.
