Over the next two centuries, Florida will experience a profound transformation, distinct from the past two centuries. Leading up to our bicentennial, Alachua County conducted a vulnerability analysis to assess our preparedness for nuisance flooding, extreme heat and storms, and other changes. The results revealed that significant efforts are needed to maintain or enhance the quality of life in Alachua over the next two centuries.
Through grant funding from the Urban Sustainability Directors Network (USDN)’s Emergent Learning Program, Alachua County has collaborated with Grace 2 Overcome Inc. and The Well Creative Production company to develop a film that explores how local residents are understanding and preparing for the changes, and to facilitate a conversation on how Alachua County can develop actionable strategies to protect our residents and communities.
The film will premiere on April 2nd at 6:30pm at the Matheson Museum, located at 513 East University Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32601.
The film will last approximately 30 minutes, accompanied by catering and refreshments. Following the film’s conclusion, a facilitator will lead a group discussion.
