On rainy nights in late winter and early spring, many salamanders and frogs travel long distances from their forest habitat to breed in small wetlands called “woodland pools.” When their migration pathways crossroads, mortality risk is high. You can help by participating in the Amphibian Migrations & Road Crossings (AM&RC) Project. AM&RC volunteers survey roads in late winter and early spring to document the annual migrations and assist amphibians safely across roads. Training workshops provide instruction on data collection and project methods, amphibian identification, and tips for a safe volunteer experience. Workshops are free, but space is limited, and registration is required.
