The First Military District, Sons of Veterans Reserve will be participating in the annual Memorial Day observance on Sunday at the Veterans Administration National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA 02532.

We will assemble just inside the front gate of the ceremony no later than 12 Noon. Parade steps off at 1 PM. The SVR is scheduled to lead the parade of Veterans organizations into the cemetery.

As a key part of the ceremony, the SUVCW Department of Massachusetts Commander (assumed to be Rod Fraser) will read Logan's Order No. 11, inaugurating "Decoration Day, (now Memorial Day). The ceremony will conclude with a wreath salute at the cemetery's Veterans Memorial, followed by a rifle salute and playing of "Taps".

Following this ceremony, Brothers of the SUVCW will retire to the nearby graves of the unknown Union soldiers, where we will conduct an SUVCW ceremony of remembrance for the seven heroes interred there.

This event takes place on annually on the Sunday before Memorial Day to avoid conflicting with organizations' planned local events. It is hoped that this will make it easier for Brothers to attend.

This is traditionally the largest event of the year for the First Military District, SVR, and I hope that all Brothers will make every effort to participate.
