Microscope is very pleased to present an artist talk with LA-born, New York-based artist Kamari Carter in connection with his current solo exhibition at the gallery 'Vexillary,' which continues through January 25th. Carter will be joined in conversation by writer and art historian Sarah Bochicchio. The event will also be live-streamed on our website on this page.
The discussion will focus on Carter’s new works on view – including medium to large-scale installations, sculptures, lithographs, and inkjet prints on canvas – that to various extents utilize, represent or offer variations of the American flag to reflect on the history, symbolism, and promise of the banner and how that corresponds to the realities of our culture and society. The ways in which these works expand upon his wider investigations of systems of power in the US will also be discussed, among others.
