Royal Theater Academy (RTA) is thrilled to announce its upcoming stage production of the timeless classic, The Wizard of Oz, with a unique twist that promises to captivate audiences of all ages! With a cast of 120 performers ranging in age from 6 to 60+, and 2 separate casts (Ruby and Emerald), this multi-generational group hails from all over the East Bay and represents Royal Theater Academy’s largest production yet.
Join RTA from January 11-19, 2025 at Cal State East Bay, for a magical journey down the Yellow Brick Road. This classic story reminds us all that home is where the heart is, that friendship can conquer adversity, and that courage can transform us. Watch as Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion encounter a world unlike any they've seen before.
RTA is reimagining the beloved tale and incorporating cutting-edge AI technology to bring a fresh and innovative perspective to the stage. After two years of performing at Livermore High School, RTA is returning to Cal State East Bay. The production will feature flying performers, colorful costumes, special effects that blend the charm of the original story with futuristic elements, and intricate set designs with original backgrounds created by RTA’s talented graphic artist Dave Werner.
Director Trenton Torain shares his excitement about the show: "We wanted to create something truly special for our audience. As we all strive to change and grow, the story of The Wizard of Oz teaches us that embracing our true selves can lead to extraordinary adventures.” he continues, “With our return to Cal State East Bay, we're able to explore more creative possibilities and offer a visually stunning experience. This fusion allows us to honor the classic story while also pushing the boundaries of traditional community theater. Cal State East Bay has been instrumental in our journey and growth, and we are delighted to bring this innovative performance to such a significant location."
Special Performances: Royal Theater Academy is also excited to announce an ASL-interpreted performance on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 7 PM, ensuring this production is accessible to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. This special show was made possible by a grant from the Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance’s Tri-Valley Nonprofit Fund, awarded to RTA in March 2024.
