Enjoy these fun, interactive activities in the galleries led by our education team.  

10:30 a.m. – Drawing to See: Grab a pencil & sketch pad and notice the unexpected as you make compositions in response to artworks. The more you draw, the more you’ll see! (No drawing experience necessary and all material provided.)  Recommended for all visitors 6 years & up.  

11:30 a.m. – Look & Listen Storytime: Our most popular program for young visitors! Read along to picture books paired with works of art. Inspiring curiosity in ages 4-8 years old.

12:30 p.m. – Looking Together: Ever wondered how others interpret an artwork? Let’s explore some of the visitor-favorites in our collection together! We’ll use creative ways of looking to make connections and meaning. Recommended for all visitors 12 years & older.

12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Origami Activity w/ Japan America Society of Greater Austin: JASGA will facilitate an origami-making activity. All ages welcome.

2 p.m. Curator’s Choice: Chatham Square by Reginald Marsh (Michener Building)

Sarah Bane, Assistant Curator of Prints & Drawings, discusses the hustle and bustle of 1930’s New York life, depicted in Reginald Marsh’s Chatham Square.

4 p.m. Art with an Expert – Wooden Stories: Framing Carpentry in the Colonial Andes (Smith Building)

With Dr. Francisco Mamani-Fuentes. This talk will explore the beautiful and intricate wooden vaults developed across the Viceroyalty of Peru, from the 16th to the 18th centuries. The origins of historical framing carpentry in both the Iberian Peninsula and the Ancient Andes will be considered, showing how interdisciplinary approaches support our understanding of the built environment. Join a tour after this talk, led by Marilynn Thoma Associate Curator for Art of the Spanish Americas, Rosario Granados.

4–8 p.m. Pop Up Print Exhibition: The Year in Review (H-E-B Study Room, Michener Building)

Reflect on the seasons of the year with wood engravings by British artist Clare Leighton (1898–1989) and photographs by American artist Joel Sternfeld (b.1944).

5–7 p.m. Silent Disco + 4–5 p.m. DJ Set by Peligrosa Collective (Michener Building)

Experience silent disco in the museum with a DJ set by Peligrosa Collective.
